黄麻（ジュート）は、インド麻・カルカッタヘンプ・いちび・綱麻（つなそ）ともいい、しなのき（田麻）科に属します。 学名はCorchorus Capsularis, L.といい、球状果実、長い円筒型果実の２種類の一年生草本の茎からとった靱皮繊維であり、資源は無尽蔵にあるといえるし、何よりも次のように地球環境にやさしく、地球温暖化抑制に寄与します。

- 自然生態系の枠内で短期間に再生産されます。
Needless of any artificial care, very quickly reproducing plants. - ジュート繊維となる工程中に発生する大量の廃棄物（水分を含めれば95％）は、産地土壌に還元されて自然環境系に組み込まれます。
The waste (95% if the water is also included) generated during the fiber extraction process is reduced and re-assimilated completely into the soil. - ジュートは、光合成が旺盛な植物で、二酸化炭素（CO2）の吸収力が普通の木と比べて５～６倍あり、地球温暖化を抑制する働きがあります。Renown for its highly efficient photosynthesis: its CO2 absorption capacity is 5 to 6 times higher than most of the other plants, contributes largely to prevent global warming.
- ジュート製品は、焼却処分しても有害な物質を出さず、土中に埋めてもバクテリアによって完全分解され、土に帰るので環境を汚染しません。
The jute products do not generate any harmful substance when incinerated, or, buried in the soil, decomposed integrally by bacterias, do not damage the environment.
